Last Week: The Strong Five alliance proved they were playing an honest game by blindsiding their ally David.
39 26 Days, 18 People, 1 “Survivor” Blog…
Alright, let’s check out the tribes as they currently stand…
The Niu Nia Tribe (wearing blue)
Eva, 23 - PhD Candidate
Joe, 45 - Fire Captain
Kamilla, 30 - Software Engineer
Kyle, 30 - Attorney
Mary, 30 - Substance Abuse Counselor
Mitch, 34 - P.E. Coach
Shauhin, 37 - Debate Professor
Star, 27 - Sales Expert
Post-Tribal Shenanigans
Mary is reeling now that her number one is on the jury. But, she’s used to being on the bottom, so she just goes back to work.
Eva claims that she’s going to try to keep Mary around, but she won’t promise to not write her name down. She also says that she won’t play her idol for Mary. Well…at least she’s honest…
Eva tells us that she’s locked in with her four; Shauhin, Kyle, and Joe. And that Mary’s best bet is to lay low and work with them because she has two powerful advantages.
You mean…that’s Mary’s best bet to get bounced at final five or to be a no-vote finalist.
Mary, Star, and Kamila have a chat, realizing that they need to do something. They’re hoping to get the other side to split the vote. Star dubs this “The Revolution” and tries to bring Mitch on board too.
Mitch would be into this, if literally anyone other person had this idea. Apparently Star is all over the place and she literally just voted for Mitch.
Shauhin identifies Kamilla and Mitch as the free agents, and he realizes that they need to play things close to the vest or the stragglers might join together to take out his alliance.
In other news, Star is very annoyed by Mitch’s snoring. Oh, that would be my “Survivor” Achilles’ heel. They’d vote me out immediately after one night.
Kamilla also shares Star and Mary’s plan with her bestie Kyle. At the forefront of that info is the fact that they’re going to target Joe. This makes Kyle nervous because he’s already upset everyone on the jury.
They decide that Kamilla is going to see if she can take Joe out without Kyle having to get his hands dirty.
Reward Challenge Time: The players’ arms will be attached to their side and their ankles will be tied together. They’ll slither through the sand while they maneuver a buoy. From there, they’ll throw rings onto a target. The first person to hit all three shots will get a boat ride to a Fijian island for fried chicken and waffles.
This ends up with Jeff leading them in a song about chicken and waffles. It isn’t La Flor entrance dance awkward, but it’s close.
Also, yay not sending them to the Sanctuary.
Result: It comes down to Joe and Kyle with Kyle picking up the win. He’s allowed to choose three people to accompany him on the adventure and he goes with Eva, Kamilla, and Shauhin.
Chicken and Waffles Island
Mmm…actually, I usually think the PB and J reward would be the best on a tropical island, but fried chicken sounds pretty good.
Kyle confesses that his plan was to upset Mitch, Star, and Mary enough that they’d be open to targeting Joe.
However, we quickly learn that Kyle also upset Joe. But, Joe also thinks it was smart because it allows him to connect with the people on the outs.
Joe tells Mary that the reason David went home was because everyone thought she was in his ear. This shocks Mary because she didn’t realize people viewed her as some kind of a mastermind.
This encourages Mary to get the stragglers together to force a rock draw.
Immunity Challenge Time: The players will use a rope to balance a wobbly table while stacking letter blocks. The first person to spell “Immunity” wins immunity.
Rice Negotiation: If three people sit out, Probst will give the tribe more rice. Much like that one musical, nobody is going to throw away their shot.
Result: Joe wins an intense challenge. And he makes a great point that the challenge was perfect for dads who learn to be super still and quiet so as to not wake up their sleeping kids.
I 100% feel that.
Pre-Tribal Politicking
Now that Joe is safe, Star wants to target Shauhin. Mitch immediately tips him off.
As Mary and Kamilla discuss an alternate strategy, Mary floats Kyle’s name. You can imagine how Kamilla feels about this.
Eventually, Mary realizes that she and Star are in this alone. Star even tells Mary she’ll be voting her her. So, Mary goes to work trying to make Star the one to go home.
The pitch for Star is that she comes off as a loose cannon, and she’s already tossed Shauhin’s name out there.
Oh my gosh…we get Star rapping about her situation in the game. I didn’t know this episode was “Survivor: The Musical!”
The pitch for Mary is that she’s thrown out Eva’s name and she’s a bigger threat to win immunities.
What if the immunity challenge is a rap battle?!
Tribal Time
Shauhin makes an interesting statement, saying that when you work with trust you come off as more trustworthy than when you start with a base of paranoia.
Star calls Jeff “Uncle JP” and now I’m getting madder that we haven’t seen way more of her.
Joe says you have to be all-in if you’re going to play a trust game.
Mary says that paranoia has gotten people who were not on the bottom kicked out. She’s clearly referring to David.
Eva thinks people are going to do what they’ve discussed.
Mary is pretty sure she’s going home tonight, so she’s not concerned with final three.
Probst asks Star if she’ll play her Shot in the Dark if she feels threatened. She says everything is up for consideration.
Voting Time: Mary votes for Star and the rest of the votes are secret.
JPro tallies and returns. He asks if anyone wants to play an idol or and advantage and…nobody does.
We’ve got one vote for Star, one vote for Mary, one vote for Star, one vote for Mary, one vote for Star, one vote for Mary, one vote for Star, and the eleventh person voted out of “Survivor 48” and the fourth member of the jury is…Star.
Verdict: If Kyle’s not willing to make a move on his alliance, we’re in for a boring couple of episodes.
A: Kyle and Kamilla - Ugh…I love this duo so much. Years ago I had an idea I called “Survivor Sleeper,” where two people would pretend to not be affiliated with each other and then feed each other information from both inside and outside of the major alliance. It feels like that’s what we’re seeing.
B+: Joe and Eva - Again, they should be prime targets, but they survived another episode without spending one of Eva’s advantages.
B+: Mary - You are so much more of a threat than Star, so kudos for making it another day.
B-: Shauhin - I mean, you’re safe and a decent bet to make it to the end. But who in your alliance can you beat?
C: Mitch - I get not trusting Mary and Star, but what else do you have? Mitch is playing a fifth-place game.
