Post-Tribal Shenanigans
Mitch is not pleased to see his number one ally go, in fact, he expected a unanimous vote toward Sai.
He approaches Sai with an explanation for why he voted for her…again. Sai makes the great reference that she’s the cat with nine lives.
In other news, Cedrek is trying to figure out why he received a lone vote. He thinks it was a woman because of the handwriting. That’s actually pretty interesting. Might make sense to vote with your non-dominant hand to throw people off.
Sai later admits to us that the vote was her and she wrote it in cursive to throw him off. Wait, someone her age knows what cursive is?!
Also: Sai is making Chaos Kass look like Calm Kass.
The next morning, Shauhin and Joe both approach Mitch individually and try to help him feel better about what happened. But Joe thinks that Mitch is a big threat due to his social game and his challenge prowess.
Also, Shauhin and Sai talk strategy for the first time and they actually seem to click.
Immunity Challenge Time: The tribe will be randomly split into two itty bitty tribes. Each player will hold onto a handle that’s tied to a bucket that has 25% of their pre-game body weight. The last person with their bucket in the air for each tribe wins immunity. There will be two Tribal Council’s tonight, with both tribes eliminating a player.
And, the person who lasts the longest overall will win a peanut-butter-and-jelly meal for his or her tribe. Their tribe will also go to Tribal second, which is a big deal because the person eliminated from the first Tribal won’t make the jury.
Tribes: The orange team is Star, Joe, Mitch, Chrissy, Eva, and Sai. Purple is Kyle, Shauhin, Cedrek, Mary, David, and Kamilla.
Quick Aside: Shauhin provides some montage music chants and Jeff performs the apply for “Survivor” promo while they’re watching the competitors battle it out. I’m worried that the show has finally devoured its own tail.
Results: It comes down to Eva vs. Joe and Kyle vs. David. Joe claims the win for the orange team while David takes it for the purple team.
Joe and David battle it out, smashing the previous record set by Gabler in “Survivor 43,” with David taking the reward after 52 minutes!
Team Purple
Shauhin refers to the David vs. Joe battle as Captain America vs. The Rock. Well…then it went wrong, because the Rock has it in his contract that his character doesn’t lose fights, so…
It seems like Cedrek is the early target on this tribe, but Kyle is still wary of Shauhin because he looked in his bag.
Also, Mary tells everyone that she’s pretty sure that Sai is going to be the person targeted on the other tribe.
The decision is made to tell Cedrek that they’re targeting Shauhin. Shauhin doesn’t love this idea, but he goes for it. Kyle sees this as a potential opportunity to get rid of Shauhin. He and Kamilla have a conversation where they’re trying to figure out a way to make it look like Shauhin is threatening them, so they could boot him without upsetting David.
This leads to Kamilla floating a rumor to David that Shauhin has an idol.
Team Orange
Joe identifies Mitch and Sai as the two people who are on the bottom of this group. Sai appreciates that she’s the easiest vote and tries to see if she can find any cracks.
Sai approaches Eva with the idea of targeting Mitch, but it seems like Eva isn’t particularly concerned with which of the two goes home.
It comes down to Sai being an easy vote while Mitch is someone who could be an eventual threat to win the whole thing.
Mitch floats the idea to Joe that he could guarantee that Sai goes home by playing his Block-a-Vote on her, which would eliminate her ability to play her Shot in the Dark.
Tribal Time
Joe and Chrissy have a bit of a debate as to whether or not you can win the million bucks by playing an honest game. Joe, obviously, thinks it’s possible, whereas Chrissy thinks those big moves are how you build a resume.
Chrissy points out that the Joes and Davids dominate challenges and look great, so people like her need to cut some throats. She’s not wrong. But, this might not be the best time to be having this conversation.
Voting Time: Sai’s vote has been blocked. The rest of the votes are secret.
JPro tallies and returns. He asks if anyone wants to play an advantage and…nobody does. We’ve got two votes for Sai, and the seventh person eliminated from “Survivor 48” is…Sai.
Boo…there goes a potential fantastic juror.
Tribal Time Part Deux
Wait…nobody found some kind of advantage during the feast?
Shauhin is making the point that this Tribal is about proving yourself to your alliance while Cedrek says that it might be the time to take out a big threat.
Yeah, that tracks for both of them.
Mary makes the point that everyone did what they said they were going to do at the last vote, so she doesn’t have a reason is distrust anyone.
Voting Time Part Deux: Cedrek votes for Shauhin, Shauhin votes for Cedrek, and the rest of the votes are lost to the magic of editing.
JPro tallies and returns. He asks if anyone wants to play an advantage and…nobody does. We’ve got one vote for Shauhin, three votes for Cedrek, and the eighth person eliminated from “Survivor 48” is…Cedrek.
Verdict: I don’t think anything that happened tonight was very surprising. And I think two non-threats-to-win went home. So…boring episode.
But, “Survivor” is like pizza in that even when it’s mediocre, I still enjoy it.
A: Kyle and Kamilla - I love the forethought they have that they had to make it seem like Shauhin was coming for them before they could make a move. This duo is dangerous.
A-: David - If they can keep this Five Strong alliance going, he’s going to be golden. I just don’t see it happening.
B+: Mitch - He did everything he could to not be the elimination this week. And they had a strong case to get rid of him. Hopefully once they re-merge he’ll have more room to make moves.
B: Joe - The problem with preaching an honest game is you look worse if someone feels like they’ve been deceived.
B-: Shauhin - Maybe he doesn’t deserve this low of a grade, because he did the right things for his alliance. But it seems like he has no clue about this Kyle/Kamilla uprising.
B-: Chrissy - She was very right that players like her can’t count on winning challenges, so they’ll have to deceive and make moves. But, she didn’t have to say it.
Incomplete: Eva, Mary, and Star - I can’t give you a grade if you don’t show your work.
